Hello

Welcome to my ePortfolio! This is where I will be documenting my course work in both my EME4010 course and my EME4673 course.

I'm an English major at the University of Florida and I'm pursuing a bachelor's degree. My ultimate goal is to go beyond my bachelor's degree and earn my master's degree so I can become a state college professor for English. I'm currently working as a substitute teacher for the Gilchrist County School District, and I have industry certifications in Microsoft Word 2013, Microsoft PowerPoint 2013, and Microsoft Excel 2013. These certifications, which I earned in 7th and 8th grade, have supplemented my ability to complete school assignments at four separate institutions: Trenton High School in Trenton, Florida, Florida Gateway College in Lake City, Florida, Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Florida, and the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. I have a passion for teaching and setting a good example for the future generation. By doing what I do, I hope I can make a positive difference in a student's life!

Career Goals

I'm on track to earn my bachelor's degree from the University of Florida in May of 2026. To accomplish this goal, I will continue to work hard in my classes and give 100% of my effort toward completing my assignments. Along with my bachelor's degree, I also plan on earning my temporary teaching certificate from the state of Florida around the same time. Earning these two things will enable me to be a high school English teacher. If I could choose one place to work in that position, it would be Trenton High School because I'm most comfortable and familiar with the environment of that school. I plan on becoming a high school English teacher in August of 2026. I recognize that high school is often one of the toughest periods of the average person's life, so I want to be there for students who need help and guidance. Teaching is simply the medium through which I'll be able to do that. I want to be seen as a comforting and inspirational figure for students who genuinely need help. I was one of those students when I was in high school, so I know what it's like.

As a transfer student, I'm given a limited amount of time to earn my bachelor's degree. Once I earn my bachelor's degree, I won't be in a rush to do anything anymore. After settling in my career as a high school teacher for at least a couple years, I will strive to earn my master's degree. I estimate that I'll earn my master's degree anytime from May 2031 to May 2035. After earning my master's degree, I'll finally be able to achieve my dream of being a full-time college professor. Being a professor will enable me to help students just getting into college who still need a little guidance or perhaps just someone to talk to. I want students to think of me as someone who's put together and has it all figured out. Of course, there will likely be less students that need extra help in college, but I still want my students to know that I'm there for them. I want to be a good role model for students in general.

After accomplishing all of these goals I have set out for myself, I believe that I will feel accomplished and I likely won't have any further goals for my career or professional life. I'm happy with the goals I have currently, and I imagine that I will continue to be happy with them.

Impressions of Instructional Design

My impression of the instructional design process is a good one. Instructional design is the first step in making a course a reality. I find it great that there are instructional designers who help educators build their courses in the pursuit of an optimal learning experience for the students, and an optimal teaching experience for the educators. A poorly designed course can be the reason for a student's failure, just as a well-designed course can be the reason for a student's success. Every student is different, so I find that it amazing that instructional designers are able to craft designs that benefit students of multiple learning types. As a student that is fine with learning in any way, as long as it's efficient, I struggled to understand the importance behind that concept in the beginning of this course. Now, I can see that it's very important to accommodate all learners, especially learners who need extra support. Instructional designers are problem solvers at their core; they find problems in a course, and they find solutions to those problems. When helping an educator improve the design of their course, sometimes it's so poor that the instructional designer has to make a new course design completely from scratch. That's possibly the hardest part of their jobs, but the work is very rewarding when it means that students will be able to properly learn in the classroom, contributing to their overall success. In my Final ID Report, I thought it was best that students learn through a digital learning platform that goes at their own pace. I figured that the best way to accommodate every learner was to let them progress through the course as fast or as slow as they are comfortable with. The digital learning platform would primarily consist of readings and multiple-choice quizzes, which seem a bit bland and unoriginal, but the "do it at your own pace" style of the class would be enough to satisfy me as an educator if I was the one running that class. Anyhow, I found this course to be very beneficial to me. I feel very fulfilled by what I've learned.
